THE STORY

Least Terns make their nests on and lay their eggs directly upon the sand of beaches along the Emerald Coast. By design, their eggs are well-camouflaged so that they blend in very nicely with the surrounding sand. 

This capture is a much-appreciated reminder about the importance of looking about for eggs and nests when walking the beaches in late spring.

I was doing just that when this tern performed an abrupt fly-by, letting me know that I wasn’t welcome in the vicinity. Instead of quickly retreating, I needed to look around and locate her nest so that I didn’t accidentally trample it during my escape.

I decided that the best action would be to stay still and allow for her to relax and return to her nest. The hopes of me finding her camouflaged egg(s) were slim, but I knew she would lead me to them. She flew towards me a few more times in what seemed similar to a grizzly bear’s bluff charge. When she flew towards me, she made no turns, but instead flew directly over my head. 

I was able to make this capture on her last charge, just before she returned to her nest and assisted me in knowing which route to take.

I left her in peace and sufficiently reminded that when I’m in nature, I’m always a guest in something else's territory.

Passe-Partout will feature a 1.6” wooden frame, and a 3.5” acid-free museum card on all sides of the capture.

Prints and giclées will typically ship within two weeks. All other pieces will require two to three weeks for craftsmanship prior to shipping.

Just like the natural moment shared within the capture, each Limited Edition is once-in-a-lifetime. As a collector of this capture, you'll be one of a select few individuals to enjoy its beauty.

A limited number of Artist Proofs—no more than ten percent of the edition size—may be offered periodically.

Once this Limited Edition is fully collected, this capture will never be offered to the public again.

Uniquely Yours

Your piece will feature its individual numbering and artist's original signature. Depending upon the display option selected, this may be on the front or reverse of the piece.

Also included are two Certificates of Authenticity: one adhered to the rear of the finished capture, and the other as a collectible parchment to be stored in your archives.

The Quality You Expect

Your Limited Edition capture will be crafted to order in either the artist's studio or in Europe by partner artisan. No sacrifices are made—the only objective is to create the finest possible piece of art for your collection.

Frames and/or mounting hardware will be crafted and installed by hand using only the finest materials.

Once crafting is complete, your piece will be carefully inspected and signed by the artist prior to delivery or pickup.

Details of Craftsmanship

The Print

Your capture will feature the highest possible level of quality and detail. Please understand that it is not possible to portray this quality on your device's monitor. We welcome you to visit our gallery to see our extraordinary level of detail in person.

Our recommendation is to select matte finishes as opposed to gloss. Matte finishes help to diffuse light and reduce or eliminate reflections, ensuring that your capture's beauty isn't lost or difficult to appreciate.

Artistic Mounts

Wrapped canvas is a popular option thanks to its simplicity and "wrap around" appearance on all sides. Your canvas will be meticulously printed and hand-stretched over a custom-made wooden frame.

For a more modern appearance, consider the "Museum Mount" option. Your capture will be printed and then mounted to a thin block of solid aluminum (strength for mounting, but lightweight and easy to handle) before being laminated with either a matte (recommended) or gloss finish.

For the best of both worlds, upgrade your Museum Mount selection to the Wooden Edge enhancement. This offers a .2" wide thin wood frame with a depth of 1.37"

Framing

Your capture's frame will be crafted to order using sustainably sourced solid wood.

The Passe-Partout selection is ideal for the most discerning collectors. Enjoy a museum-quality glass (not acrylic) with anti-reflective properties that ensures accurate and vivid presentation of your capture's details and colors. This glass also blocks ultraviolet rays, protecting the integrity of the print for a lifetime and beyond.
